Am I welcome on the trip if I am a young teenager or someone in my senior years?
Absolutely! The only age requirement that we have is that you be at least 14 years old at the time you submit your application, unless a parent is traveling on the trip with you. In addition we regularly have people in their 70’s attend our trip and they love it!
What is the work like on the trip and would I be able to do it?
We deliberately gear the workload of the trip to each person and their ability. This is why we have a place on our application for you to list any limitations and such. Normally our mission team is divided each day into both construction teams and ministry teams. One day your might be assigned to construction and another day you might be performing ministry. Each of these tasks vary in intensity and we will only assign you to a task you feel capable of. In addition we make sure that people take breaks either scheduled or as needed and we all take a long mid day break for rest. We work very hard to make this trip a powerful and wonderful experience and go to great lengths to find you the right spot to serve in as part of our team.
I have medical limitations, can I still participate as a team member on this year’s trip?
Certainly! Whether you are confined to a wheelchair, use a cane or have another limitation you are not only welcome, but encouraged to participate. One of our ministry partners that lives in Kenya and is a big part of our team and is also a paraplegic and needs a wheelchair to get around. Working together as a team it is our goal to support each other and take care of each other’s needs while we serve together. So no matter what your limitations are, and as long as you are not placing yourself personally in any risk we welcome you and your service.
Is it safe to travel to Kenya?
Inheritance World Ministries Inc. would never intentionally put anyone including our team members at risk and we go to great lengths do whatever we can to make sure our team members remain safe both while traveling and while in country. The countries we therefore choose to to take teams to minister in are countries that we feel allow us to uphold those concerns for safety. But even so, there is always the possibility of an event that could take place that would place people at risk. That however is no different than the unexpected we face here in the United States or the tragedies that take place here on American soil that endanger us on a daily basis. With that said, we have chosen to believe that if God has called us to serve in a specific place, then it is our desire to serve Him where He has called us to serve, and through that understanding we have peace because we believe that there is no safer place that we can be, then in the center of God’s will for us!
Can we serve on this mission trip and attend together as a family?
Yes. We often have families or family members participate in our mission trips together. In fact it is a powerful way for your whole family to experience a once and a lifetime memory together as you serve Christ!
Where do I get a mission trip application so I can sign up for this year’s trip?
Printable applications are available for you to fill out and submit by CLICKING HERE.
When is the deadline for submitting mission trip applications?
All applications must be submitted or deposited in the mail by midnight Sunday February 6th, 2019. If you are submitting an application close to, or on that date it is best to contact us either by phone or email (both available on our contact us page) and letting us know it is on the way so we can be prepared to receive it. We have a limited number of airline seats, so applications are being received and accepted on a first come first serve basis. We will continue to receive applications up until the deadline and secure additional airline tickets if we can, but there are no guarantees with this, so PLEASE make every effort to submit your applications just as soon as possible to help secure your spot as a member of our team for this years trip! If our seating is full we will either, attempt to secure an additional airline seat, hold your space should an opening arise or if you chose refund your deposit.
Is my passport included in the cost of the trip?
No. Because you may already have a valid passport and because your passport is a personal item that can be used for your own travel experiences it is one of the few things you will need that is not included in the cost of the trip. At present the average cost of obtaining a passport is approximately $110.
Will I need a travel visa?
Yes. You will need a single entry visa to travel from the United States and to enter into Kenya. In our monthly meetings we will walk you through this process of obtaining your visa step by step and the price for your visa is included in the cost of the trip as well.
Why is there a $150 deposit due with my application?
In many cases the deposit to secure airline tickets that our ministry must layout ahead of time varies between $100 and $250 a seat for group rates. Inheritance World Ministries uses your deposit to help offset a portion of that cost and to assure us that those applying are truly committed to the call God has laid on their heart.
How will I know how to prepare for the trip?
Each month starting right after our application deadline closes we will begin holding monthly meetings. Each meeting will take place on a Sunday afternoon and run for about 2 1/2 hours. At each of the meetings you will receive additional material to be added the your mission workbook. This material will cover everything you need to know and in the order you need to know it in. We will teach you how to raise the funds for your trip, what you need pack for personal items, what type of clothes to wear and when, how to work as a team, ministry training, job assignments, vaccines, and so much more. Unless there are unforeseen issues that arise these meeting are required because of the importance of all that you need to learn and know. For a full list of meetings you can visit our calendar of events page for all the dates and times by CLICKING HERE.
What immunizations or medications are required for traveling to Kenya?
Inheritance World Ministries (IWM) only requires that our team members have up to date Tetanus vaccines and a supply of malaria medication (approximate cost $50) for the trip. When traveling from the United States or Europe directly into Kenya the Yellow fever vaccine is NOT required. During our monthly mission trip meetings we will also cover a full list of other vaccines that are optional for you for the trip with us, but not required. Because vaccines are a personal item they are not included in the cost of the trip.
If my teenager wants to apply to go on the mission trip do I as a parent have to go also?
No. Our trips are comprised of both adults and teenagers and there are always plenty of adult leaders to supervise adolescents that attend our trips. In addition we have developed working protocols that allow our team members to remain as safe as possible and well cared for and looked after.
What happens if I get sick or injured on the trip?
First, we take every precaution to make sure our team members remain as safe as we can on our trips. We oversee and have developed high standards to make sure that team members stay safe when it comes to things like work, travel, food consumption and more. But during those times when team member do get sick, our leaders personally make sure they are well looked after and cared for. If we feel that their sickness or possible injury is something that needs advanced medical attention we will make arrangements to get that person into the care of a facility where proper care can be administered. In cases where extreme care might arise (which we have never experienced) each team member is covered by emergency medical flight insurance which allows us to fly them home to the United States where they can receive the best care available and be home with their family. This in one of the benefits of traveling with us and this coverage is included in the overall cost of the trip.
What is the cost of the trip?
The cost of this years trip is $3,485. But during our very first meeting we go into great detail to show you several ways in which you can raise the cost required for this trip. These are time proven methods that we have developed and refined over the years. Just one of these methods that we will teach you will allow you to develop a support team around you that through their combined effort will actually pay the cost of the trip for you to go to Kenya, by having you go in their place. Please don’t worry at all about the cost. God has always seen to it that the funds for our trips were always supplied and that He is always in charge and can be trusted.
